Yuga Labs Transfers CryptoPunks IP to Infinite Node Foundation

In a significant development for the NFT landscape, Yuga Labs has transferred the intellectual property rights of the iconic CryptoPunks NFT collection to the Infinite Node Foundation (NODE). This move, announced on May 13th, marks a pivotal moment for digital art preservation and the future of NFTs.

NODE, a non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of digital art, now stewards this highly valuable collection, along with a substantial $25 million endowment. This makes NODE the leading US non-profit specifically focused on digital art.

While the financial details of the transaction remain undisclosed, the acquisition underlines the growing recognition of NFTs as significant cultural artifacts. NODE has assembled a distinguished advisory board to guide the CryptoPunks’ future, including the original creators, Matt Hall and John Watkinson, and a representative from Yuga Labs.

According to NODE, their mission is to create a framework for the continued success of CryptoPunks within both the digital and traditional art worlds. They aim to ensure this influential collection remains accessible and celebrated for generations to come. The collection’s total market capitalization approaches $1.2 billion, according to CoinGecko data.

The CryptoPunks collection, launched in 2017, has generated over $3 billion in sales, with the highest-selling NFT fetching nearly $24 million. This transaction follows Yuga Labs’ previous acquisition of CryptoPunks and Meebits (subsequently sold in February), highlighting the dynamic nature of the NFT market.
