Bitcoin’s Reign Delays Altcoin Season, Expert Claims
The crypto community eagerly awaits the return of altcoin season, but prominent market analyst Stockmoney Lizards casts doubt on its imminent arrival. In a recent X post, Lizards, followed by over 160,000, stated that altcoin season is “not even remotely close.” The primary reason cited is Bitcoin’s persistent dominance.
Despite a recent 2% dip, Bitcoin’s dominance remains remarkably strong, hovering above 65% and trading within a channel suggesting potential further growth. This sustained dominance, Lizards argues, actively hinders altcoin rallies. Historically, altcoin seasons haven’t begun until Bitcoin dominance falls towards 40%, a level currently far off.
While not entirely dismissing future altcoin season possibilities, Lizards emphasizes Bitcoin’s current market leadership: “BTC is the measure of all things.” This assertion is supported by the current market indicators:
- Bitcoin Dominance: Above 65%, mirroring levels seen before the 2021 altcoin season crash.
- Ethereum Dominance: Plummeted to 5-year lows at 8%, resembling 2020 levels before the COVID-19 market rebound.
- Altcoin Dominance (excluding Ethereum): At 26%, its lowest point since 2021, just before the previous altcoin season launch.
The analyst highlights that a significant Bitcoin dominance decline, similar to the 40% drops preceding previous altcoin seasons (2017 and 2021), is a necessary precondition for a sustainable altcoin rally. Until such a drop materializes, the crypto market’s focus remains firmly on Bitcoin.
