Arizona Legislature Approves Bitcoin Reserve Bills

A significant step towards cryptocurrency adoption in Arizona! The state House of Representatives has passed two landmark bills paving the way for a Bitcoin or cryptocurrency reserve. Senate Bill 1025 (SB1025), focusing on a strategic Bitcoin reserve, and SB1373, establishing a broader digital assets reserve, both cleared the House in separate votes.
On April 28th, SB1025 secured 31 votes in favor, versus 25 opposed. This bill would amend existing statutes to allow investment in Bitcoin, potentially up to 10% of state reserves. Similarly, SB1373 passed with a decisive 37-19 margin. Representative Jeff Weninger, commenting on SB1025, highlighted the bill’s alignment with similar legislation in other states, suggesting a growing national trend towards cryptocurrency adoption by state treasuries.
“This bill allows the treasurer to invest up to 10%, primarily in Bitcoin but potentially other cryptocurrencies as well,” said Rep. Weninger. “While it might start as a permissive option, it positions Arizona to adapt to the evolving role of Bitcoin in the future.”
