Bitcoin Price Prediction: $120,000 by Q2 2025? Standard Chartered’s Bold Forecast

Standard Chartered, a prominent financial services firm, has issued a striking prediction: Bitcoin (BTC) could skyrocket to nearly $120,000 by the second quarter of 2025. This bold forecast, suggesting a potential 25% surge from current levels, anticipates even further growth to $200,000 by year’s end – a remarkable 110% increase.

Analyst Geoff Kendrick attributes this bullish outlook to several converging factors. A key element is the elevated US Treasury term premium, currently at a 12-year high. This signifies increased investor demand for longer-term Treasury bonds, potentially indicating broader market conditions favorable to Bitcoin as an alternative investment.

Beyond macroeconomic indicators, Kendrick highlights the significant accumulation of Bitcoin by major institutional investors, often referred to as “whales.” This sustained buying pressure underscores growing confidence in Bitcoin’s long-term value. MicroStrategy, the largest corporate Bitcoin holder, recently announced another round of purchases, further reinforcing this trend.

The influx of capital into Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) further supports this narrative. Kendrick interprets this as a safe-haven reallocation from traditional assets like gold, suggesting investors view Bitcoin as a viable alternative during economic uncertainty.

Potential for Consolidation:

While the forecast is bullish, Kendrick acknowledges Bitcoin’s historical tendency towards periods of sideways trading following sharp price increases. This suggests potential consolidation after any significant upward movement.

Contrasting Perspectives:

Not all analysts share this optimistic view. Damir Tokic of Seeking Alpha expresses caution, noting the potential for Bitcoin to decline alongside the Nasdaq 100 if market sell-offs intensify. However, he also acknowledges Bitcoin’s potential to solidify its safe-haven status, particularly if the US dollar continues its depreciation.

Current Market Conditions:

At the time of writing, Bitcoin traded slightly below $95,000, relatively flat for the year but significantly up compared to the same period last year. Ethereum (ETH) has recently outperformed Bitcoin, along with other major altcoins like XRP and Solana (SOL), which have experienced notable price recoveries.
