Bitcoin Price Surge: Could $100K Be Back on the Cards?

\"Bitcoin

Following a recent market upswing, fueled by positive economic news, the possibility of Bitcoin reaching the $100,000 mark is once again a topic of discussion among analysts. This significant price increase follows a period of relative stagnation, and several factors contribute to the renewed optimism.

On April 9th, the BTC/USD pair experienced a notable 9% surge, recovering much of its earlier losses. This upward movement brought Bitcoin closer to breaking out of a falling wedge pattern observed on its daily chart since December 2024. This technical indicator, characterized by converging downward trendlines, often suggests a potential price reversal.

A successful breakout above the upper trendline, currently around $83,000, could propel Bitcoin towards the $100,000 target by June. However, a failure to break through this resistance could lead to a return to lower price levels within the wedge pattern, potentially even a decline towards $71,100.

Further supporting the bullish outlook is the current on-chain data. Bitcoin’s recent rebound occurred just before testing a crucial support zone between $65,000 and $71,000, a range defined by active realized price and the true market mean. These metrics provide insights into the average acquisition cost of Bitcoin held by active investors.

Analysts at Glassnode highlight this $65,000-$71,000 range as critical for maintaining bullish momentum. A fall below this range could trigger widespread losses for active investors, negatively impacting market sentiment. Conversely, a successful defense of this zone significantly strengthens the case for a continued upward trend.

While the $100,000 target remains a possibility, the potential for a decline towards $50,000 also needs consideration. A breakdown below the 50-week exponential moving average (EMA), currently around $77,760, could trigger a more significant price correction, potentially leading to a test of the 200-week EMA near $50,000.
