Bitcoin Whales Are Undergoing a Generational Shift: CryptoQuant CEO
\n
The CEO of on-chain analytics firm CryptoQuant, Ki Young Ju, has shed light on a significant shift occurring in the Bitcoin (BTC) market. He has observed a notable change in the Realized Cap of both new and old Bitcoin whales.
\n
The "Realized Cap" is a metric that reflects the total valuation of Bitcoin by assigning each coin its last transferred or sold price on the blockchain. This provides an estimate of the current cost basis of Bitcoin in circulation. Essentially, it tracks the total capital invested in Bitcoin.
\n
To understand the generational shift, we need to define "whales" and differentiate between "new" and "old" whales. Whales are entities holding over 1,000 Bitcoin in their wallets. New whales are those who acquired their Bitcoin within the past five months, while old whales have held their BTC for longer than five months.
\n
Analyzing the Realized Cap of both groups, CryptoQuant has found a compelling trend. While the Realized Cap of old whales dominated before 2018, the influence of new whales has steadily increased. This year, the growth in the Realized Cap of new whales has been particularly significant, reaching $108 billion, nearly matching the $113 billion Realized Cap of old whales.
\n
"Bitcoin whales are experiencing a generational shift," says Young Ju. "The Realized Cap of new whales is expected to surpass that of older whales soon."
\n
This surge in the Realized Cap of new whales could be attributed to the influx of capital into Bitcoin Spot Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs). These funds, attracting both institutional and retail investors, are acquiring Bitcoin and contributing to the rise in the Realized Cap.
\n
This generational shift is a significant development in the Bitcoin market. It indicates that the market is evolving, with new players bringing fresh capital and potentially influencing the future trajectory of Bitcoin.
\n
As of today, Bitcoin is trading at around $62,200, experiencing a slight decline over the past week. However, this generational shift in whales could signal a robust future for Bitcoin, driven by the growing influence of newer investors.
