Bitcoin’s Wobbly Ascent: Is a Deeper Correction Imminent?
Bitcoin (BTC) is grappling with renewed selling pressure, struggling to hold above the critical $115,000 mark. At press time, BTC trades around $115,745, exhibiting a 2.2% dip in the last 24 hours and a significant 6% decline from its July peak of $123,000. This recent market action sparks concerns about short-term price stability, especially given the apparent lack of robust structural support in the current trading range.
On-Chain Signals Flash Caution
Data from CryptoQuant, a leading on-chain analytics platform, reveals a divergence between long-term and short-term investor sentiment. While long-term holders remain largely in profit, recent activity suggests a shift among short-term players. Analysis of Bitcoin Unspent Transaction Outputs (UTXOs) – a metric tracking coins spent profitably or at a loss – reveals increasing sensitivity to minor price drops, indicating growing market uncertainty.
CryptoQuant analyst, Darkfost, highlighted how UTXO activity reflects broader sentiment. Their analysis, focusing on transaction counts rather than value to eliminate price noise, shows a decline in the ratio of profitable to loss-making UTXOs. This shift, from a ratio exceeding 10,000:1 in mid-July to approximately 500:1 recently, points to short-term selling pressure, despite the overall positive position of most long-term holders.
Structural Weakness Exacerbates Concerns
Another CryptoQuant analyst, Maartunn, emphasized the precarious nature of Bitcoin’s recent price surge. The rapid ascent from $112,000 to $115,800 on July 10th created a notable absence of on-chain support within that price range. This lack of consolidation raises the specter of a swift and substantial price correction should selling pressure intensify.
With Bitcoin precariously perched above its last identifiable on-chain support zone, the risk of a steeper decline looms large. Failure to maintain this crucial level could trigger a significant downward cascade. The coming days will be critical in determining whether Bitcoin can stabilize or succumb to further downward pressure.
