Cardano’s Governance Vote Shatters Records: Near-Perfect Participation
Cardano’s latest governance vote has set a new standard for on-chain participation, with an astounding 99.5% of the 4.657 billion ADA in delegated stake actively participating. This unprecedented turnout demonstrates the vibrant and engaged Cardano community’s commitment to shaping the network’s future.
IOG CTO Romain Pellerin highlighted the remarkable results, showcasing the overwhelming support for the proposed measure. A decisive 76%, or 3.57 billion ADA, voted in favor, significantly outweighing the opposition (918 million ADA) and no-confidence votes (169 million ADA). Only a negligible 0.5% of the delegated stake chose not to participate.
This milestone achievement underscores the success of Cardano’s “Voltaire” governance era, a testament to its innovative liquid democracy model. This system empowers ADA holders with the flexibility to directly participate or delegate their voting rights to Delegated Representatives (DReps), maintaining full control over their funds regardless of their choice. DReps’ voting power is directly proportional to the ADA they represent, ensuring fair representation.
The functionality enabling this level of engagement was fully realized after the Plomin hard fork in January 2025. This upgrade unlocked core governance features, including treasury withdrawals, and formally established the role of DReps within the Cardano ecosystem. Importantly, the design ensured that non-participating ADA holders retained their staking rewards, facilitating a smooth transition to the new system.
The high turnout signifies the community’s embrace of Cardano’s balanced governance approach, combining the efficiency of representative voting with individual agency. This success story positions Cardano as a leader in decentralized governance and active community participation within the cryptocurrency landscape.
At the time of writing, ADA is trading at $0.72, reflecting a 15% increase over the past week (data from Coingecko).
