Core Scientific’s Q1 2025 Results: $580M Profit, Revenue Miss

Core Scientific Q1 2025 Results

Core Scientific, a Nasdaq-listed Bitcoin mining company, announced its first-quarter 2025 financial results on May 7th. The report revealed a net profit of $580 million, a significant increase compared to the $210 million earned in Q1 2024. However, the company missed analyst revenue estimates, reporting $79.5 million in total revenue, falling short of Zacks’ projections.

Self-mining generated the majority of revenue at $67.2 million, while hosted mining contributed $3.8 million and colocation services added $8.6 million. The decrease in revenue is attributed to the Bitcoin halving in April 2024, which reduced mining rewards, and a strategic shift towards high-performance computing (HPC) hosting for AI applications. Despite the reduced Bitcoin mining revenue, the average Bitcoin price increased by 74%, and lower power costs contributed to offsetting some losses.

Core Scientific’s strategic partnership with CoreWeave, an AI startup, for a $1.2 billion data center expansion is expected to significantly boost colocation revenue, with projections reaching an annualized $360 million by 2026. CEO Adam Sullivan described Q1 as an ‘inflection point’ highlighting the company’s pivot towards AI and HPC, aligning with growing demand for high-performance data infrastructure.

AI’s Impact on Bitcoin Mining

The shift towards AI and HPC is a notable trend among Bitcoin mining firms. Industry reports suggest that incorporating HPC could significantly increase profits in the long term. Core Scientific’s stock performance reflected the mixed results, with shares closing down 1% on May 7th, but later experiencing a post-bell jump exceeding 3%.
