Crypto Billionaire’s SpaceX Mission Achieves Historic First: Manned Polar Orbit

\"SpaceX

In a groundbreaking feat, SpaceX, under the leadership of Elon Musk, has successfully launched the first-ever manned spaceflight to orbit Earth’s poles. This extraordinary mission, dubbed \”Fram2,\” is spearheaded and entirely funded by Chun Wang, a prominent Chinese-born Maltese entrepreneur and founder of the renowned Bitcoin mining pool, F2Pool.

The Fram2 mission, a fitting tribute to the 19th-century Norwegian Arctic exploration vessel, lifted off from Cape Canaveral, Florida, at 1:46 am UTC on April 1st, 2025. Aboard the SpaceX Dragon capsule were Wang himself, along with a distinguished crew: German polar scientist Rabea Rogge, Norwegian cinematographer Jannicke Mikkelsen, and Australian Arctic adventurer Eric Philips.

This three-to-five-day orbital journey marks a pivotal moment in human space exploration, providing the first-ever human perspective from the unique vantage point of polar orbit. The mission’s scientific objectives are equally ambitious, with the crew conducting 22 experiments focusing on human health in space and the effects of extended spaceflight. These experiments range from capturing the first-ever X-ray image in space to cultivating mushrooms in the unique environment of orbit.

While the exact financial details of the mission remain undisclosed, Wang’s investment represents a significant commitment to advancing space exploration. Following launch, the crew reached the South Pole in under 30 minutes, orbiting approximately 265 miles above Earth, completing a full circumnavigation roughly every 90 minutes.

Wang’s entrepreneurial journey began with F2Pool in 2013, one of China’s pioneering Bitcoin mining pools. Currently, F2Pool holds a nearly 10% market share, ranking fourth globally. His influence extends to the Ethereum ecosystem, as founder of Stakefish, currently the eighth-largest Ethereum staking pool.

Upon mission completion, the SpaceX Dragon capsule is scheduled for a splashdown off the California coast, marking a first for the company. This privately funded polar orbit mission represents a remarkable achievement, highlighting the intersection of technological innovation and private enterprise in the burgeoning field of space exploration.
