Decentralized AI: The Next Big Thing?

The future of artificial intelligence may be decentralized, and it could be bigger than Bitcoin. This is the bold prediction of Chris Miglino, CEO of DNA Fund, a prominent digital asset investment firm. Miglino, along with fellow entrepreneurs Brock Peirce and Scott Walker, manages multiple funds, including a dedicated AI compute fund heavily invested in the BitTensor (TAO) ecosystem.

BitTensor’s decentralized, open-source nature and its subnet system, enabling specialized AI marketplaces, are key factors driving Miglino’s enthusiasm. DNA Fund has committed approximately $50 million in compute power to the TAO ecosystem, actively mining on various subnets and actively seeking partnerships with projects within the ecosystem.

Miglino highlights the transformative potential of decentralized AI, stating that it is “consuming everything” at DNA House. He believes this approach has the capacity to surpass even Bitcoin’s impact. This perspective aligns with the growing consensus among technologists who see AI reshaping society in profound ways.

DNA Fund’s strategy of supporting decentralized AI development emphasizes community support and eliminates the need for traditional venture capital funding. Developers can build on the ecosystem, attracting validators and miners organically, thus establishing their business without extensive external fundraising. This approach supports the idea of a future where AI development is truly democratized.

This vision isn’t entirely novel. Ben Goertzel, a pioneer in artificial general intelligence, recognized the need for decentralized AI decades ago. The potential of a decentralized future for AI, spearheaded by projects like BitTensor, is attracting significant attention and investment, suggesting a paradigm shift in the technological landscape.
