Donut Labs Secures $7M to Revolutionize Crypto Browsing with AI
Donut Labs, a New York-based startup, has successfully raised $7 million in pre-seed funding. This significant investment will fuel the development of Donut, a groundbreaking crypto browser poised to redefine user interaction with blockchain applications.
The funding round was spearheaded by prominent investors including Sequoia, Bitkraft, and HackVC. Several angel investors, such as Solana and key players within the crypto ecosystem including Matrix Partners, Sky9 Ventures, Makers Fund, and SonicSVM also participated.
Donut is not your average web browser. It leverages cutting-edge artificial intelligence to create an ‘agentic’ experience. This means its AI algorithms understand context and user intent, autonomously executing blockchain-based operations with unprecedented ease and efficiency. This includes a built-in crypto wallet, DEX integration, and direct decentralized network access with on-chain execution.
“The traditional browser hasn’t changed in over three decades. We’re re-architecting everything,” explains Donut founder and CEO, Chris Zhu. “We’re building the hyper-financialized front-end of the internet for the AI agent era.”
Donut offers a streamlined, secure interface for accessing a range of decentralized tools and crypto services. The platform’s AI-powered risk assessment and architecturally isolated signing environments enhance transaction security while optimizing for speed and cost. The AI also translates complex blockchain data into plain English, providing users with clear, concise safety ratings.
Donut’s AI agents can handle a multitude of tasks, including token trading/swapping, placing bets, and generating passive income from digital assets. While initially targeting crypto traders and DeFi users, the potential for mainstream adoption is substantial.
The Future of Browsing: Agentic and AI-Powered
Zhu envisions a future where agentic browsers become the standard, much like smartphones replaced feature phones. He anticipates widespread adoption within the next decade, driven by cost reductions on Ethereum layer-2 networks and increased AI accessibility.
“Agentic browsers are poised to become the default entry point,” Zhu states. “The merging of on-chain and off-chain environments will create a seamless user experience.”
Donut’s long-term vision encompasses a comprehensive suite of features, integrating payments, gaming, content creation, and social interaction within its crypto-native environment. Furthermore, the company plans to utilize advancements in decentralized identity and confidential computing to empower users with a personal “crypto CFO” experience.
