Ethereum Soars Past All-Time High: $7,000 Next Target?
The crypto market surged on August 22nd, fueled by positive comments from Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell. Ethereum led the charge, with ETH prices skyrocketing over 14% in a single day, according to CoinGecko. This remarkable surge propelled ETH past its previous all-time high of $4,878, set back in 2021.
A Bold Prediction: $7,000 ETH?
Following this breakthrough, Joao Wedson, CEO and founder of Alphractal, made a significant prediction. In a post on X, he suggested Ethereum might experience a brief period of fear before entering a new accumulation phase, especially if the recent record high is sustained. Wedson highlighted the potential for algorithmic trading activity to cluster around the $7,000 – $7,500 range, a key indicator of a reaccumulation stage where market makers absorb liquidity and prepare for future growth.
Market Maker Behavior and Cyclical Patterns
Wedson’s analysis points to a correlation between Ethereum’s price movements and Bitcoin’s market dominance. Historically, after roughly 28 days of Bitcoin price consolidation, Ethereum tends to absorb a significant portion of Bitcoin’s capital flow. Current market data suggests this pattern might be repeating, bolstering the case for a sustained Ethereum rally. The fact that ETH has already surpassed its previous all-time high suggests this rally could begin immediately, bypassing a typical period of volatility.
Cautious Optimism
While Wedson’s analysis is compelling, investors are urged to exercise due diligence. His prediction is based on observed market maker behavior during past cycle transitions, and past performance is not indicative of future results. At the time of writing, ETH is trading around $4,716, showing an impressive 9% increase in the last 24 hours and over 11% in the past week (data from CoinGecko).
