Ethereum’s Resurgence: Analyst Recants XRP ‘Flippening’ Prediction

The cryptocurrency world buzzed with speculation in late 2024 and early 2025 about XRP potentially surpassing Ethereum in market capitalization. XRP’s impressive rally, outpacing most major coins while Ethereum struggled, fueled this belief. Analysts confidently predicted a closing gap between the two.

However, a prominent analyst, Charting Guy, a vocal proponent of the “flippening,” has recently reversed his stance. He cites the period between November 2024 and January 2025, where XRP surged nearly 600% against a stagnant ETH, reaching lows of $1,385 in April. This rapid growth, increasing XRP’s market cap sevenfold in weeks, ignited the flippening narrative.

Charting Guy’s recent admission: “That is no longer the case.” His reasoning? He reinvested in Ethereum near its April lows, witnessing its subsequent “immense strength.” Ethereum’s current price hovers just 10% below its all-time high of $4,891, reaching $4,784 earlier today. This represents a remarkable 239% increase from its April low.

This surge propelled Ethereum’s market cap to $572 billion, significantly widening the gap with XRP’s $193 billion. The difference, exceeding $368 billion, dwarfs the July 13th gap of under $200 billion. Charting Guy asserts that Ethereum’s performance renders the flippening unrealistic, at least in the short term.

Ethereum’s Momentum Outpaces XRP

In the last four weeks alone, ETH has soared 52%, while XRP’s growth has plateaued. Even a 2.5x increase in XRP’s price, from $3.22 to approximately $8, would result in a market cap around $477 billion—still lagging behind Ethereum. To match Ethereum’s current market cap, XRP would need to reach $9.30, assuming ETH remains static, a scenario Charting Guy deems “rather unlikely.”

He cautions against heedless optimism, urging investors to avoid unrealistic XRP price targets while acknowledging Ethereum’s strength. He advocates holding both assets, emphasizing the risk of over-reliance on a single coin. Charting Guy highlights Ethereum’s overdue rally, its previous struggle to keep up with Bitcoin. The once-plausible XRP flippening now seems distant, with Ethereum’s upward trajectory making the race increasingly one-sided.

While XRP retains growth potential, Ethereum’s current dominance shifts the dynamics. The future remains uncertain, but the current landscape favors Ethereum.
