Barry Silbert, founder of Grayscale Investments, has returned as chairman, weeks after the firm confidentially filed for a US IPO. This significant move follows a period of regulatory scrutiny and leadership transitions. Silbert succeeds Mark Shifke, who remains on the board.

Grayscale has also appointed a new executive team, comprised of seasoned professionals from prominent financial institutions like Bridgewater, Apollo, Goldman Sachs, and Citadel. These appointments include Diana Zhang (COO), Ramona Boston (CMO), Andrea Williams (CCO), and Maxwell Rosenthal (CHRO). They will report directly to CEO Peter Mintzberg.

Mintzberg emphasized the blend of “institutional rigor and entrepreneurial drive” within the new team, highlighting Grayscale’s commitment to innovative investment strategies and operational integrity.

Silbert’s return comes after a period of considerable regulatory challenges. His previous departure coincided with the SEC’s ruling on spot Bitcoin ETFs and legal battles involving his parent company, Digital Currency Group (DCG), and the collapse of Genesis.
