KiloEX Hacker Returns $5.5M After $7.5M Exploit

\"KiloEX

In a stunning reversal, the perpetrator behind the recent $7.5 million KiloEx exploit returned a significant portion of the stolen funds – $5.5 million worth of cryptocurrency – just four days after the attack. This unexpected development follows the decentralized exchange’s (DEX) suspension of operations following the April 15th incident.

The wallet address linked to the exploit surprisingly transferred the substantial sum back to KiloEx. Blockchain security firm PeckShieldAlert confirmed the return on April 18th, tweeting: “#KiloEx exploiter -labeled addresses have returned ~$5.5M worth of cryptos to #KiloEx.” This follows KiloEx’s offer of a $750,000 bounty for the return of 90% of the stolen assets.

While the reasons for the return remain unclear, the incident highlights the complexities and vulnerabilities within the DEX ecosystem. KiloEx is actively collaborating with law enforcement and cybersecurity firms, including Seal-911, SlowMist, and Sherlock, to investigate the attack and identify the perpetrator. Initial reports suggest a \”price oracle issue\” may have been responsible for the exploit.

The swift return of a substantial portion of the stolen funds raises questions about the hacker’s motives and the future of security within decentralized exchanges. This developing story underscores the need for robust security measures and the ongoing evolution of the cryptocurrency landscape.
