Cryptocurrency exchange OKX, based in Seychelles, has announced its return to the US market. This follows a significant $505 million settlement with the Department of Justice (DOJ).

A recent blog post revealed the appointment of Roshan Robert, formerly of Barclays, as the US CEO. Robert stated, \”Today marks the launch of OKX’s centralized exchange and OKX Wallet in the US, along with our new San Jose headquarters.\”

Existing Okcoin users will be transitioned to the new platform, promising enhanced liquidity, reduced fees, and more advanced trading tools. The rollout will be phased, starting with new customers, with a full nationwide launch planned for later in 2025.

The platform will support major assets like Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), USDT, and USDC. OKX emphasizes its monthly publication of global proof of reserves, audited by Hacken. Alongside the exchange, the OKX Wallet will also be introduced, offering access to 130 blockchains and over 10 million tokens through its DEX aggregator.

This re-entry follows OKX’s settlement with the DOJ for operating an unlicensed money-transmitting business. The settlement included a $505 million penalty. OKX has pledged to enhance its compliance efforts following this settlement.

OKX’s return signifies a strategic move, capitalizing on the growing cryptocurrency market in the US while demonstrating commitment to regulatory compliance.
