Paris Crypto Kidnappings: Over a Dozen Suspects Arrested
French law enforcement has announced the arrest of over 12 individuals in connection with a series of high-profile cryptocurrency-related kidnappings in Paris. The arrests follow a wave of concerning incidents targeting prominent figures in the French crypto industry and their families.
According to reports from Le Parisien, the suspects, which include several minors, face charges ranging from kidnapping and attempted kidnapping to criminal conspiracy. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities exploring the possibility of a larger criminal organization at play, leveraging social media for recruitment.
One particularly audacious incident involved an attempt to abduct the daughter and grandson of Pierre Noizat, CEO of Paymium, a prominent French cryptocurrency exchange. Bystanders and the quick thinking of Noizat’s daughter thwarted this attempt, which was captured on video and widely circulated online.
Another case involved the kidnapping of the father of a crypto marketing entrepreneur, who was eventually rescued after a ransom demand of between 5 and 7 million euros. While arrests have been made in this case, the investigation into the attempted kidnapping of the Noizat family is still ongoing. Six individuals have been identified and detained in relation to the entrepreneur’s father’s kidnapping.
These recent incidents follow the earlier high-profile kidnapping of David Balland, co-founder of Ledger, a cryptocurrency hardware wallet company. Balland was also eventually rescued by French authorities.

A GitHub page compiled by Jameson Lopp details at least six crypto-related ransom incidents in France this year, underscoring the urgency of addressing this emerging threat.
