French authorities have responded by implementing enhanced security measures for crypto entrepreneurs and investors following at least three separate kidnapping incidents in 2025. These measures include security briefings, expedited police response protocols, and advisories against flaunting wealth or wearing crypto-branded attire.
These developments underscore the urgent need for increased vigilance and proactive security measures within the crypto industry. The brazen attacks highlight the vulnerability of high-profile individuals in the sector and the sophistication of criminal organizations targeting this lucrative market.

High-profile incidents include the January 2025 kidnapping of David Balland, co-founder of Ledger, who was held for ransom before being rescued by police. Other cases include a May 2024 ransom attempt targeting the father of a crypto entrepreneur, and a May 2025 attempted kidnapping of the family of Pierre Noizat, CEO of Paymium.
The Noizat incident, where masked assailants attacked his family in broad daylight, underscores the audacity and growing threat level. The French Interior Minister has convened a meeting with industry executives to address the issue and implement further security protocols.
