Tether’s Q1 2025 Financial Report: $1B Profit, $5.6B Reserve Surplus

Tether, the issuer of the world’s leading stablecoin, USDT, has unveiled its first-quarter 2025 financial results, revealing a robust performance. The report highlights a remarkable $1 billion in operating profit and a substantial $5.6 billion surplus in reserves.
The transparency report, available here, details a significant investment in US Treasuries, totaling nearly $120 billion. This includes $98.5 billion in direct holdings and over $23 billion in repurchase agreements and other cash equivalents.
Despite a slight decrease from the previous quarter, the $5.6 billion excess reserves demonstrate Tether’s financial strength. This surplus, along with strategic investments exceeding $2 billion in sectors such as renewable energy and AI, underscores Tether’s commitment to growth and innovation.
USDT’s market capitalization reached $149 billion on May 1st, reflecting strong demand. The company also reported a significant increase in circulating supply and user wallets during Q1 2025. This growth, coupled with the overall stablecoin market’s projected expansion to $2 trillion by 2028 (as per the US Treasury’s report), highlights the continued importance of stablecoins in the cryptocurrency ecosystem. However, regulatory concerns, particularly from the European Union, regarding the risks of over-reliance on dollar-pegged stablecoins, remain a key factor in the future landscape.
