Tether’s Strategic Bitcoin Purchase Fuels Twenty One Capital’s Growth
In a significant move bolstering its Bitcoin holdings, Twenty One Capital, a Bitcoin investment firm backed by Tether, received a substantial injection of capital. Tether, the prominent stablecoin issuer, purchased 4,812.2 Bitcoin (BTC) for a staggering $458.7 million, further solidifying Twenty One Capital’s position in the market.
This strategic acquisition, executed at an average price of $95,319 per BTC and transferred to an escrow wallet on May 9th, was disclosed by Cantor Equity Partners in a May 13th filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. This brings Twenty One Capital’s total BTC holdings to an impressive 36,312 BTC, including 31,500 BTC already held by Cantor Equity Partners on their behalf. The company is poised to trade under the ticker XXI upon the completion of its SPAC merger with Cantor Equity Partners.
Twenty One Capital’s CEO, Jack Mallers, confirmed that the merger is under approval and while a definitive date remains unclear, the significant investment underscores the firm’s ambitious growth strategy. This substantial BTC acquisition positions Twenty One Capital as a major player in the corporate Bitcoin landscape, trailing only Strategy and MARA Holdings in total holdings. This purchase demonstrates confidence in Bitcoin’s long-term value, further solidifying its status as a digital asset of increasing global significance.
The partnership between Tether and Twenty One Capital is notable, with Tether holding a majority stake alongside Bitfinex. The involvement of Cantor Fitzgerald as a financial advisor and investor, along with SoftBank’s significant $900 million investment, showcases the confidence that major financial institutions are placing in Twenty One Capital’s vision.
Twenty One Capital’s competitive aspirations are evident. The firm aims to rival Michael Saylor’s Strategy in offering capital-efficient Bitcoin exposure to investors. Their key performance indicator will be Bitcoin per share, reflecting a focus on acquiring Bitcoin rather than traditional profit metrics.
With plans to reach 42,000 Bitcoin before launch, Twenty One Capital, through further contributions from Tether, SoftBank, and Bitfinex, is on a clear path to become a significant force within the Bitcoin ecosystem. The recent market fluctuations in Cantor Equity Partners’ share price, however, highlight the inherent volatility associated with investments in this emerging sector.
