Visa invests in stablecoin payment platform BVNK amid pro-crypto push

Global payments giant Visa has made a strategic investment in BVNK, a London-based fintech pioneering stablecoin payment infrastructure. This move underscores Visa’s ongoing commitment to innovation within the digital asset landscape.

BVNK’s May 7th announcement revealed that the investment was channeled through Visa Ventures, representing more than just financial capital; it signifies a robust partnership. BVNK CEO, Jesse Hemson-Struthers, emphasized the synergistic potential, stating, “Partnering with Visa—the original payments innovator—combines their expertise in global payment networks with our stablecoin infrastructure, creating powerful opportunities to reshape how businesses operate in the digital economy.”

BVNK’s Continued Momentum

Visa’s investment follows BVNK’s successful $50 million Series B funding round in late 2024, led by Haun Ventures, with participation from Coinbase Ventures, Scribble Ventures, DRW VC, Avenir, and Tiger Global. This funding fueled BVNK’s expansion plans into the US market, leveraging its London base and aiming for operational licenses to better serve American companies. The company’s valuation was estimated at $750 million at the time.

Visa’s Expanding Crypto Footprint

This investment reflects Visa’s broader strategy of increased involvement in the crypto space. In October 2024, Visa enabled instant deposits and withdrawals between Coinbase and Visa debit card accounts, leveraging Coinbase’s extensive user base. That same month, Visa launched its Visa Tokenized Asset Platform (VTAP) to streamline the issuance and management of tokenized assets, including stablecoins and CBDCs.
